Yoga always plays an important role in preventing lifestyle illness. Yoga has many health benefits and its a perfect combination of strengthening and stretching exercises. The fact that not any other form of exercises is as enduring as yoga.

According to the International Association of Yoga Therapists – Yoga is a definition of the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health. It is a well being through the application of philosophy and practice of yoga. It has proven many health benefits. Practicing over 50 different form of exercises, a normal yoga session targets almost every area of the body – core, arms, legs, and back etc. Regular practice of yoga not only helps you to get those toned muscles, but can also be the cure of several diseases. And if not complete cure, there would hardly be any disease yoga can’t help in controlling.

Power of Yoga: Let us look at some of the diseases that can be cured

Asthma

Asthma comes in several types, some have unique aspects that require specific diagnosis and treatment but if you have asthma you are not alone.  Approximately 300 million people around the world have this chronic inflammatory disorder. Typically, asthma treatment involves medication and preventive measures like avoiding triggers. The only sustainable cure for asthma lies in yoga. For a long term cure you have to practice pranayama and anulom-vulom (alternate nostril breathing). Asanas that can relieve asthma symptom by expanding or opening your chest muscles:

  • Triangle Pose: The Triangle pose is a classic yoga pose that opens your chest and encourages deeper breathing
  • Cobra Pose: Promotes blood circulation, which supports better breathing

Arthritis

Severe joint pain is a common after-effect of arthritis and unfortunately, there is no permanent cure for the disease till now. However, practicing suryanamaskar is a versatile, effective, and natural way to control the amount of pain caused by the disease.   • Suryanamaskar (Sun Salutation) : An heart opening postures along with the breathing flow, which help you to detoxify your blood, oxygenate the brain &  full body routine that targets all the large muscle groups.

Diabetes

As of 2015, 30.3 million people in the United States, or 9.4 percent of the population, had diabetes. More than 1 in 4 of them didn’t know they had the disease. The disease that affects majority of the population worldwide, is currently an incurable but can be controlled through the practice of yoga.

  • Lord of fish pose: It helps you to stimulate the internal organs, promoting healthy digestion and encouraging detoxification.
  • Pranayama:  It helps you to boost your oxygenation levels and lung capacity.

Depression

Studies shows you how yoga can help you fight depression. These days depression is so common with young youth, number of people take sleeping pills and anti-depressants to get rid of depression. Even if yoga isn’t your forte, the combination of meditation and physical movement provide two important elements for relieving depression. Meditation helps bring a person into the present moment and allows them to clear their minds. Controlled, focused movements also help strengthen the body-mind connection. Poly Cystic Ovaries

PCOS causes irregular periods and can potentially lead to infertility in women. A lot of women get confused between the two often use terms PCOD V/S PCOS. Although we have separate briefing about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in our post. I have been suffering from PCOS from last two years, with lot of practice my periods have finally regulated and its a win for me! Yoga has definitely proved to play an important role in preventing and controlling PCOS.

The asana’s mentioned in our post have a focus on the groin/core area. These will help you increase circulation in this area and will also regulate the adrenal gland secretions, which will help you in controlling PCOS. Sun salutation, pranayama, kapalbhati, butterfly pose or plough pose are some of the posses among many which can help you overcome PCOS.
